Homework Math Problem Is Really No Problem

My eldest is in Kindergarten and is learning all sorts of new things. I love watching her grow in her knowledge and understanding of the world around her. I really can’t wait until she’s reading well. The opportunities that brings is super cool to me.
Here is an example of some math work she’s doing. I literally laughed out loud and couldn’t take a picture fast enough.

Apple Word Problem

At first glance this isn’t so out-of-the-ordinary, but for those of you who know me well know that I do not need 3 apples to make a pie. I can find a way around any recipe!

One time my friend Becca gave me a recipe for Teriyaki Pineapple Chicken. I didn’t have any teriyaki or pineapple so I made it anyway. How? You ask? I had hoisin sauce (Chinese BBQ sauce) and oranges. I just substituted what I had for what I didn’t and it worked great. I never let the ingredients stand in the way of something I really want. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t.

In fact, if I ever have 100% of the suggested ingredients we all do a happy dance. Dinner must be served and not with timidity!

I’m not quite sure how I became so brave in the kitchen, but my top two guesses could be traced back to (1)  having too much month at the end of the money which would necessitate a new level of resourcefulness and (2) willingness to do anything besides taking three toddlers to the grocery store by myself. Can I get an amen???

What is your favorite trick in the kitchen?
