I’m Dreaming Again

I love to read. I don’t know when it became so much fun, but I remember reading The Baby-sitters Club books and not being able to read the cursive sections of the books. I loved The Black Stallion series. Nancy Drew. Hardy Boys. Choose Your Own Adventure. Hank the Cowdog. If we had it in our school library, then I read it.

The power of a well-told story captured my imagination. Growing up in my hometown gave me a certain perspective on life. Stories let me explore the world and experience things that might not have been available to me on the border of Texas and Mexico.

Fast forward a couple of decades and I have a family of my own now. I still love stories. I love reading them, hearing them and telling them. My friend Laura and I had coffee last week and we talked about a new book she’s written. It’s such a personal thing to write a book/poem/whatever and then let other people read it. (Obviously I’m not a very private person because I love sharing with the whole world every thought going through my mind.)

She told me what it was like going to a fiction writer’s conference a few weeks back. I know little about publishing and it was fun to hear what that conference was like for her.

She let me read her book before she sends it off to an agent. I finished it in a day. She’s a great writer and the truths she weaves into the fabric of her story are life-changing. It’s fun for me to cheer for her and support her on this journey. She doesn’t have to let me be a part of it, but she is and for that I’m grateful.

Reading her work sparked my imagination. I would love to take sermon series that have most impacted my life and tell the stories through fiction or even non-fiction. I don’t know how I will go about accomplishing all of this, but what a fun journey to start!

Who inspired you to tell your story? How did you go about doing it? How long did it take?
